The Learning to Sew series of patterns by Lilac Lane assumes only the most basic of sewing skills: turning on the machine and cutting out the pattern. Even instructions for cutting are included. These patterns were tested by girls ranging in age from 7 to 12. They are ideal for children or adults as a very first sewing project.
5/8 yard quilting-weight cotton fabricmatching thread
Other suitable fabrics include decorator-weight cottons and corduroy although these will be a bit more difficult to work with.
This is a simple bag to encourage a first time sewer and a fun, quick project for one more advanced. Just one fabric and thread is needed to make this bag. Also included is one "Handmade with Love" sew-in label.
Tools of the Trade
You will need pinking shears, an iron, pins, a seam ripper, seam gauge and a sewing machine. A rotary cutter and mat will help with this project, although they are not essential. Make sure to have a clean work space with lots of room to spread out and relax while sewing.
