You should be a confident sewer or an adventurous beginner. Basic patchwork skills (matching squares - can't get any more basic than that).

Pattern Description:

I made this bag - MY VERY FIRST EVER BAG - and I LOVE it. I use it for EVERYTHING from an overnight stay, weekend away, baby nappy bag, throwing craft stuff together etc etc etc. I had extra squares left over - I am new to patchwork so I ALWAYS cut more of everything - therefore I thought "why not make another to match and write up the pattern in the process.

This is a very basic pattern - it can be adapted to any size, type of bag you want to make.

Make a book bag for your children, make one for a baby shower and fill it with essentials, a shopping bag to throw your purse, phone and car keys in for a quick trip, a lunch bag for your hubby even - WHY NOT???

I also made a smaller version of this and I would be lost without it!!! I love picking it up and throwing the basics in it for that quick trip to the shops.

I hope this pattern is easy to read and follow - would love some feedback.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

I am an Aussie so everything is in metric. The side of each bag measures 72cm x 53cm. That is if you use the patchwork example or if you just do a plain base colour. These measurements are the same for the lining and the stiffening. Extra fabric required for the handles, button loop and the inner pockets.

Materials:

You will need a sewing machine, and iron for pressing (very important!), any fabric from your stash for a scrappy bag, fabric for lining and some stiffener (not essential but worth the extra effort)

A large button - looks good on this big bag. Thread and any whimsy you want to add - make it your own!!!!
