This roomy tote carries everything you need for a day at the beach or pool. Use a natural canvas fabric along with coordinating fabrics from your favorite quilting cotton collection (BasicGrey PB&J Collection, by Moda was used here).
On the outside of the bag, a perky assortment of beach huts sit in a row across the front (the back is left plain). Each of the applique pieces fit within a 5" square; what a great opportunity to purchase one of those cute "Charm Packs" of 5" squares. A charm pack will give you plenty of choices to create a variety of beach huts. If you prefer to applique both sides of the bag, you will have enough squares in 1 charm pack (you will need extra fusible web). The beach huts are easily applied by machine stitching the pieces in place close to the raw edges.
The bag also features a unique nautical rope handle: It can be difficult to find the perfect rope for bags like this. That's why you'll make your own rope from a single (80 yd) ball of cotton worsted weight yarn. Actually, for this project, you must make your own yarn rope because the method used to attach the handle requires it - you'll see why later.
There's also a great zipper closure that's easy to install, and a full lining, and an interior pocket. It all goes together with a clean, neat construction method.

Knit, Sew, Bake, Repeat. That's me!
I'm a former Design Studio Supervisor for a yarn company. The techniques I use are generally traditional, but I admit I do like to press for the unusual once in a while.
