I rise early in the morning and go down late in the evening. My desire between waking and sleeping is to make things pretty or make pretty things! I have been in secondary education for twenty years teaching high school art, helping young adults recognize their creative nature or trying to help them develop one. I thought I had given up sewing when my little ones grew too big to applique their clothes and make cutesy clothes for them. I rediscovered that love of creative sewing one summer two or three summers back when I wandered into a quilt shop with my sister (the queen bee of quilting) and saw a little clutch purse pattern that looked too simple not to make. I was hooked! The rest of the summer I was designing purses and have been doing so every since.View all patterns by designer (43) »

Hooty-Patooty and Owly Oops bags are usually the most popular item in my booth at craft shows. The cute little owl makes a cute gift or a fun beginning sewing project.
My little granddaughters love owls as much as I love making purses...and I do love making purses! My sweet 7 year old granddaughter helps me with the fabric choices and with the applique and I do the zippers. Recently she said with a sigh and a smile, "What am I going to do with all of my purses?" Can you have too many?
It has been a great bonding experience working with her sewing. I get more smiles and hugs from her and she begs to come to "Nana's" And she certainly checks the sewing room to see what projects are on my table.
The applique technique is as simple as cut out, glue down (glue stick) and straight stitch the edge on the machine. The project works up quickly and is quite charming! the hardest part of the project is picking out the fabrics...and that was fun!
Now, off we pop for more fun time in the sewing studio!
