Basic Skills Necessary:

  • You should already know how to use a sewing machine

Pattern Description:

A little white kitten is so excited to play with a pink ball of yarn! Her fur is standing up and her expression is focused. Such a fun picture for a mini quilt!
This quilt is a whole cloth quilt, which means that you cut the front, back and batting all the same size as the finished quilt. The applique kitten is sewn with the fabric edges raw, exposed. It is designed to fray to the stitches, giving a textured, folk look to the quilt. The yarn is created with a simple reverse applique technique.
The applique and the quilting are done at the same time. There is no binding; the edges are finished by sewing all around and then clipping the edges to fray.

Every step in this quilt was planned to create the most beautiful quilt possible in the most efficient way possible.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Approximately 21x18 inches (53cmx46cm)

  • 2 fat quarters (18x21 inches or 45x53 cm) cotton fabric for the front and back
  • 1 fat quarter (18x21 inches or 45x53 cm) cotton flannel fabric for the middle layer (this fabric will be revealed as the ball of yarn and will show at the edges of the quilt)
  • 1 fat quarter (18x21 inches or 45x53 cm) solid white flannel for the kitten
  • White, pink and blue thread for the quilting and the kitten face details.

You Will Also Need:

  • Darning foot or free motion foot accessory for your sewing machine (optional)
