Wall Hanging

Skill Level:

medium skill level requirement Intermediate

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Rotary cutting skills
  • Familiar with 1/4" seams

Pattern Description:

Inspired by the tulip gardens of Keukenhof in the Netherlands, several of my Sewfasst(c) techniques are put to good use. These techniques mean cutting and sewing strips without cutting individual triangles, you sew, slice, dice and sew, slice, dice again. The bright colors of tulips will brighten a room during any season. Batiks were used for the whole piece, since these fabrics are so intense in color. The background could be dark, but then the flower, stem and leaf fabrics would need to be more pastel.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 48"x69" Wall Hanging or 12"x50" Table Runner

  • For the Wall Hanging: 2 yards of background.
  • 1/4 yard or Fat Quarters of three different fabrics
  • 1/4 yard or Fat Quarters of three different slightly darker fabrics

Although I have been playing with fabrics and threads since childhood, I didn't make my first quilt until 1969, but by 1982 quilting became my passion. ...
