There Was An Old Lady

from B. Bumble & Co.
(7) Name: 'Quilting : There Was An Old Lady
There Was An Old Lady

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • simple sewing and quilting, applique, embroidery

Pattern Description:

This quilt is large enough to cover the top of a bed or to wrap up in when you need a cuddle! It depicts the words to the old folk song about the Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly. Children LOVE this song and are delighted to point out each animal in order depicted on the quilt. Although this is large for a wall hanging, it is perfect for the foyer to a school or day care center. It also looks great draped over a crib or bed.
The simple applique technique can be done by hand or machine and you can find a tutorial for it on my blog, Buzzing and Bumbling. I gave this an intermediate rating only because there were so many pieces to applique. It is NOT a difficult quilt at all!

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Finsihed quilt about 50" x 60"

  • Fabrics: black background - 2 yds., green border - 1/2yd., red for dress -1/2 yd., fat quarters: green for scarf, green for apron, flesh for face and hands. Scraps of various colors for animals.
  • batting
  • backing - 3 yds. cut in half and sewn together lengthwise

You Will Also Need:

  • freezer paper, glue stick
  • for wording: embroidery floss - white. You can also choose to write it with a white paint pen and then embroider or quilt around each letter.
