The Good Shepherd

from B. Bumble & Co.
(7) Name: 'Quilting : The Good Shepherd
The Good Shepherd

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • simple quilting and applique, embroidery, basic sewing

Pattern Description:

This sweet wall hanging has been a big hit with churches who want something for their children's wing as well as with families with young children. The verse is from Isaiah 40:11, "The Lord tends his flock like a shepherd. He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart."
Because the applique is large, it is very easy to do either by hand or machine. A tutorial is available on my blog showing the easy method of applique I use.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Finished quilt approximately 42" x 36"

  • Fabric: 2/3 yard green batick for center panel and leaves on vine, 1/2 yard dark blue batik for robe, 2/3 yard marbled cream/white for lamb and border, 1/4 yard dark brown batik for shepherd's hook, fat quarters in light blue batik, flesh tone, purple, Scraps in gray, light tan or peach, black
  • embroidery floss in brown, batting about 45" x 40", backing - 1 yard at least 45" wide, binding - purple about 4 1/2 yards

You Will Also Need:

  • freezer paper, glue stick, light pencil or disappearing ink marker
