Many dancing star fish will charm your little girl. Add some smimming mermaids or any of the charming nautical motif fabrics so popular right now, and you have the perfect baby quilt!
This baby quilt is a wholecloth quilt, which means that you cut the front, back and batting all the same size as the finished quilt. The applique star fish are sewn with the fabric edges raw, exposed. It is designed to fray to the stitches, giving a textured, folk look to the quilt. The applique and the quilting are done at the same time. There is no binding; the edges are finished by sewing all around and then clipping the edges to fray.

Every step in this quilt was planned to create the most beautiful quilt possible in the most efficient way possible.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

42x36 inches

Materials:

1 yard (.91m) children's nautical fabric for front of quilt (I used Out to Sea by Sarah Jane for Michael Miller fabrics) 1 yard (.91m) solid white flannel fabric middle batting layer 1 yard (.91m) solid baby blue flannel fabric for backing 1 8x16 inch rectangle (20cmx41cm) cotton or cotton flannel in each of these colors: Purple, red or dark pink, pink, yellow, green, blue, or whatever combination of colors you prefer. Approximately 20 large safety pins for basting Darning foot or free motion foot accessory for your sewing machine (optional)
