Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Rotary cutting, machine piecing, hand or machine appliqu (for cover version only)

Pattern Description:

This was a happy mistake, hence the name "Serendipity". I was one of a group of designers participating in a block of the month, and I was to design a triangular appliqud setting block. Oops! I drew my design facing in the wrong direction! I liked it so much, I set it aside to use in a future quilt. I had designed a pieced block a couple years earlier, but had never made it up into a quilt. When I combined the two- the pieced block with my accidental appliqu block- serendipity happened! What's more, the pattern leant itself to two easy pieced variations- a scrappy version, and a more formal two-color quilt
