Pattern Description:

Modern meets vintage in this so retro, so easy to make baby rag quilt. You start with a vintage print and add a black scottie dog from the 50's and you have a fun baby quilt for today's child. This quilt blanket is so fast and easy you can make one for all the little darlings you know.

The scottie baby quilt is a wholecloth quilt, which means that you cut the front, back and batting all the same size as the finished quilt. The applique dog is sewn with the fabric edges raw, exposed. It is designed to fray to the stitches, giving a textured, unaffected look to the quilt. The applique and the quilting are done at the same time. There is no binding; the edges are finished by sewing all around and then clipping the edges to fray.

Every step in this quilt was planned to create the most beautiful quilt possible in the most efficient way possible.

This pattern includes complete easy to follow numbered step by step directions. There are full size printable patterns for the block appliques. The pattern is written with metric units in parenthesis. If you have any questions or concerns about the pattern please contact me.

Materials:

1 yard (.91m) vintage look fabric for front of quilt (I used Dick and Jane fabric by the Alexander Henry fabric company)
1 yard (.91m) solid cream flannel fabric for back of quilt
1 piece 41x 36 inches (104cmx92cm) cotton batting .( I use Warm and Natural brand)
1 piece 21x17 inches (53cm x 43cm) black or dark blue flannel for the scottie applique
Tiny piece of fabric for the dog's eyes
Approximately 20 large safety pins for basting
Darning foot or free motion foot accessory for your sewing machine
