  • Use a ruler and rotary cutter, use a sewing machine and maintain a 1/4" seam allowance, either quilt on your sewing machine or have a professional quilt it for you, make and attach binding.
  • This is an advanced project and requires prior quilting knowledge of cutting on an angle or bias, using bias edges, matching seams, and sewing "Y" or inset seams.

Pattern Description:

Do you know the acronym for the colors of the rainbow? ROYGBIV!
I added the accent of black to give it some punch . I love it and hope you do too!
Strip piecing makes this pattern easier than it looks. I've listed this pattern as "advanced" because some of the techniques required are considered advanced. But read my story below to hear how a group of eleven "true" beginners inspired this pattern and each made the quilt top for themselves in a 6 week (18 hour) class.
This quilt was inspired by a group of Native American women who were in a "True Beginner" quilting class that I taught. One of the ladies brought in a gorgeous Lone Star quilt and of course, everyone in the class wanted to learn how to make it because it is a popular quilt that is made and given away for special occasion gifts. One lady in the class said she had received five of them but had never made one!
The amount of class time we were allotted didn't permit us to be able to make the big bed size quilt, so I designed this wall hanging. That way, they could learn the star piecing techniques and still have a finished quilt top at the end of class. This quilt pattern was the result.
This is an advanced project but I have to say, every one of my true beginners finished her Lone Star quilt top.
