Basic Skills Necessary:

  • You should already know how to use a sewing machine and some of the fancier stitches. Preferable, you would also have knowledge of fusible applique and cutting out fabrics using rotary cutting tools. If not, you can still learn by referring to quilting books that teach these methods.

Pattern Description:

My inspiration came from the news that a new grandchild was coming soon... Therefore, because I had wanted to learn a new quilting software program and design a special quilt; this seemed a perfect time to combine these two goals.

I choose a train because it reminded me of the one I'd see many times on my way to the place where he would grow up.

This PDF pattern has colored illustrations, clear instructions, and full-size templates for the applique pieces that have already been reversed for the fusible applique process. Use my fabric choices as your guide and have fun with this project.

If you wish, you may try one of my free applique patterns to see if the method is one you would like to make.
