Pattern Description:

Spinning round and round, can you imagine the motion of this children's toy? Now you can make a pinwheel that will be a treasured keepsake of childhood. The center pinwheel is made with a unique 3 dimensional pattern that is both striking in appearance and easy to create, even for a beginner.

This quilt is a whole cloth quilt, which means that you cut the front, back and batting all the same size as the finished quilt. The appliques are sewn with the fabric edges raw, exposed. It is designed to fray to the stitches, giving a textured, folk look to the quilt.

The applique and the quilting are done at the same time. There is no binding; the edges are finished by sewing all around and then clipping the edges to fray.

Every step in this quilt was planned to create the most beautiful quilt possible in the most efficient way possible.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • approximately 35x44 inches (89x112cm)

Materials:

  • 1 yard (.91m) blue print fabric for front of quilt
  • 1 yard (.91m) fabric for back of quilt
  • One piece 36x 46 (91x117cm) of cotton batting that can be quilted 10 inches (25cm) apart. (I used Warm & White batting)
  • 1 3/4 yards (160cm) white cotton flannel fabric for pinwheel and borders
  • 1 square 30x30 inches (76x76cm) striped fabric for pinwheel
