Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Machine piecing
  • Hand or machine applique

Pattern Description:

This innovative pattern is a combination of a traditional pieced block, Patience Corners or Bright Hopes, with Celtic knotwork done with bias applique. Make this small size quilt, perfect for a table runner, to explore this new and exciting design style by Scarlett Rose, then expand it by making more blocks for a larger size quilt. This design will tile and create the most amazing overall patterns as you play with bias tape colors and placement of those colors.

Use your favorite method for making bias or click on a link in the pattern to choose among the recommended videos that show detailed instructions for how to make bias tape by several popular methods. Readymade bias tape can also be used.

The use of bias tape makes this unusual design look more puzzle like, with interweaving elements. Set together in rows for larger size quilts, the bias will weave over and under from block to block, creating an overall Celtic woven design!

The placement of fabrics and colors opens up all kinds of variations for this intriguing pattern. Play with making the same color of bias run from one block to another, making a larger Celtic knot!
