Basic Skills Necessary:

  • basic free motion quilting nothing fancy
  • bind or face a quilt (link to facing tutorial included)

Pattern Description:

I recently saw a stone bench sitting in the middle of the woods on a path with the name of a deceased loved ones names and life dates engraved on it. The beauty of that simple bench amidst the splender of nature lead me to make this art quilt. I took it out of the woods and put it on an overlook. Inviting to sit and reflect ...... and just be.

Included in this pattern is a tutorial on fusible or raw edge applique in case this technique is new to you. You get a detailed pattern for the bench complete with a value key to get the shading. The pattern also has far away mountains and 3 far away sailboats. There are measurements to cut the sky, water and ground.

Once you have the bench you can put it on an overlook as I have or do your own thing - put it in the woods, in a park - wherever your memory is. In one of my samples I wrote the words pause and reflect on the side of the bench with thread or you could write something with a pigma pen. In one of my samples I made a night sky with a moon and painted a refection on the water from the moon. The sky is the limit here. I encourage you to do your own thing.

Accuracy is not needed for art quilting in my world, it should be fun, spontaneous and creative!
