Basic Skills Necessary:

  • cut fabric with a rotary cutter and ruler
  • sew an accurate 1/4 inch seam
  • quilt
  • sew a double fold binding to finish

Pattern Description:

A simple but effective quilt pattern, and a great place to start your quiltmaking journey.

This pattern uses 2.5 inch wide strips of fabric. You can use pre-cut strips such as Jelly Rolls or cut your own yardage into strips if you prefer.

The pattern contains complete instructions and plenty of colour diagrams to lead you step-by-step from fabric through to finished quilt. Instructions are given for cot, lap, single and double bed sized quilts.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • cot (36" x 48")
  • lap (48" x 60")
  • single (72" x 90")
  • double (90" x 102")

Materials:

  • For the cot size, you will need 24 2.5 inch x WOF strips of a variety of different fabrics
  • For the lap size, you will need 40 2.5 inch x WOF strips of a variety of different fabrics
  • For the single bed size, you will need 90 2.5 inch x WOF strips of a variety of different fabrics
  • For the double bed size, you will need 128 2.5 inch x WOF strips of a variety of different fabrics
  • For the cot size, you will also need 1.5 yards of backing fabric and 1/2 yard for binding
  • For the lap size, you will also need 3 yards of backing fabric and 3/4 yard for binding
  • For the single bed size, you will also need 5.5 yards of backing fabric and 1 yard for binding
  • For the double bed size, you will also need 8.25 yards of backing fabric and 1 yard for binding

You Will Also Need:

  • rotary cutter, mat and ruler
  • sewing machine
  • sewing thread
  • scissors
  • pins
  • wadding (batting)
  • iron
