Pattern Description:

Having designed all the state birds which are usually pictured as the male of the species, I decided to start designing some female birds. I started with my favorite bird, the cardinal. I used the painting I did of the cardinals for my sketch.

The tote bag in one of the pictures is a new design that will be available soon for free on my Craftsy page. Keep an eye out for it with a pieced 8" square. Any of my 8" patterns will fit in that tote bag pattern.

It was hard to find the exact fabric for this bird so I decided to use lighter pink and color it with Fabrico fabric pens to get the right color and also to add some 3-dimensional effect to the bird. If you find the 'right' fabrics you can decide to skip the fabric pen steps.

Please visit my website if you need a tutorial on back baste applique.
