Basic Skills Necessary:

  • You should already know how to rotary strip cut, square edges and corners.
  • Have some knowledge of either hand or machine quilting.
  • Must have knowledge of paper template piecing, squaring to trim and binding edges.
  • You should know how to layer and baste your layers together.
  • A basic knowledge of applique edge turning and stitching.

Pattern Description:

Inspired by Downton Abbey, Lord Grantham's Hunt is done in simple earthy shades, with a regal blue that shows his softer side. It is straightforward, like Robert, detailed, but not fussy.

Note: This pattern is template heavy. Many templates cross multiple pages. You need to be able to change your print margins to zero in order to print this pattern correctly!

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • King size approx 110" x 110"


  • Quilter's Square/ruler, rotary cutter, cutting mat, iron, safe ironing surface.
  • Hand quilting needles and quilting frame OR
  • Sewing machine
  • Scissors/snippers
  • A copier or scanner to reproduce the template and pattern graph
  • Tracing or printer paper

You Will Also Need:

  • Batting of your choice
  • Backing fabric of your choice
  • Matching or invisible quilting thread
