Pattern Description:

Mug rugs are mini quilts that are used as a coaster or small placemat to hold your mug and a small snack. This mug rug pattern is a great project for using up a favorite piece of bold or novelty print fabric you have in your stash.

This pattern uses square and rectangular pieces of fabric, making it a nice project for a beginner or a quick afternoon sewing project for a more advanced quilter. The finished size is approximately 8 inches square.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 8 x 8 inches


  • sewing machine,
  • rotary cutter and mat
  • ruler
  • 6 x 6 inch piece of fabric in a large print
  • (2) 1 1/2 x 6 inch strip of fabric, red polka dot
  • (2) 1 1/2 x 8 inch strip of fabric, red polka dot
  • 8 x 8 inch piece of fabric for backing
  • 2 1/2 x 44 inch strip of fabric for binding
  • 8 x 8 inch piece of batting
