Pattern Description:

When I was first bitten by the quilting bug, I wanted to design a quilt for my daughter.

My daughter, Erin, loves cats. Especially her cat, Fluffy. And she loves to read. She especially loves to read about cats. Her love is what inspired me to make my first quilt - the Krazy Katz quilt.

I designed the quilt to have a bookshelf surrounded by cats - featuring Erin's real life cat - Fluffy. He is the orange and white one. Erin saw my sketch and drew a little mouse on the shelf next to the sleepy kitty.

This 63 page pattern includes complete step by step instructions for making the Krazy Katz quilt from fabric purchase to fabulous finish.

These steps cover the piecing and the applique for the quilt top and contain both diagrams and full color photos.

There are full size pattern sheets for the applique. Just print them off! No scaling adjustments necessary.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

The Krazy Katz pattern instructions are for a finished quilt measuring 59.5" x 85". This allows for approximately 10" of drop on both sides and the bottom of a standard Twin bed. Any size quilt can be made by adjusting the width of the borders, the width or height of the bookshelf, etc.

Materials:

Fabric requirements are based on a 40" minimum fabric width.
For the books:An assortment of 15 fabrics. A mixture of medium to large prints, solids and 'reads like a solid' fabrics. For each of the 15 choices, you will need a fat quarter OR 1/4 yard.
For the bookshelf:Dark Brown - 1 3/4 yd.
For the borders:Pale Tiny Print - 2 1/2 yd.
For the cats' bodies:(These are the colors of the cats as shown. You may choose natural colors.) Bright Orange - 1 yd. Dark Pink - 1 yd. Pea Green - 1 yd. White - 1 yd.
For the mouse:Tiny print or gingham - fat quarter or 1/4 yd.
For the cats' faces and belly:Medium floral print1 - fat quarter or 1/4 yd. Medium floral print2 - fat quarter or 1/4 yd.
For the stripes, noses, paw pads, ears and eyes: Light Pink solid - 1 yd. Black or Dark Brown for iris of eyes - 12" x 12"
Backing Fabric: 5 yds.
Binding Fabric: For 1/2" double fold, cross grain binding - 3/4 yd I used a Pink plaid for the binding. Polka dots and stripes also make a fetching binding.

You Will Also Need:

Quilt batting of your choice in a size that is at least 72" x 90"
Quality Thread to match your cat fabrics and yarns
White Thread, or your choice of color, for piecing
Thread for quilting in the same color as your Yarn Ball
About 3 feet of yarn for Yarn Ball
About 1 foot of yarn to match Mouse
2 round black buttons for mouse eye and nose
Fusible Fleece - 2 yd. (I used Pellon Thermolam Plus Fusible Fleece)
Paper backed Fusible Web - 1 yd. (I used Pellon 805 Wonder Under)
---- Optional- Instead of matching threads, you may wish to use a quality monofilament thread (size .004) for invisible machine applique
