I purchased this pattern, thinking it looked calls for scant seams...and there are small pieces, which on the first block my starting seam bunched up...on starting the second block...I finally figured out to chain piece the first few blocks....and this is what i suggest on this quilt...the chain piecing...really solved the problem and is going to make...this project more enjoyable...I will post a picture of the finished recommendation..if you are considering purchasing this pattern....go for it...the finished block I am more than pleased project is being done with Americana colors of reds white and blues....this is going to be interesting

KY Duchess, this is an excellent point. Smaller pieces can definitely bunch up when they aren't chain pieced; going slowly and making sure the presser foot is engaged and the needle is down in the fabric before starting to sew helps, but yes, it can be a little frustrating.

The good news is if one chooses to do the completely scrappy version of this pattern (blue quilt in photos), chain piecing is a snap and the only way to go!

I am glad you are enjoying it, and thanks for recommending the purchase. I definitely want to see your finished quilt!
