Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Use quilting rulers and rotary cutter
  • Sew a straight line

Pattern Description:

I enjoy wearing my vintage houndstooth tweed jacket. It makes me feel
as though I am covered in shooting stars. The intricacy of the weave has
always intrigued me. Now that the classic look of houndstooth is back
in vogue, I wanted to "weave" my own version of it in fabric.

This is a pattern I released in 2010. My friend Kim of Persimmon Dreams made hers using hand dyed fabrics divided into lights and darks. I think the effect is stunning. Click on the second photo to see it.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Yardage and instructions given for these sizes:
  • Wheelchair Lap 37"x45"
  • Picnic 49"x69"
  • Twin 69"x89"
  • Full 77"x93"
  • Queen93"x101"
  • King 108"x108"


  • The wheelchair lap size quilt needs 1.5 yards each of 2 contrasting fabrics for the quilt top
  • Larger quilts need more fabric
