I love designing and making quilts, especially folk and story quilts. All my patterns are easy to follow with step by step directions and photos. Every pattern begins with a quilt created and sewn on my table top machine. I want everyone who tries one of my patterns to enjoy the experience of quilting and the satisfaction of a finished project. If you ever need help or have questions, email me at email@example.com.
I have a blog where I share the design process behind the patterns, MarylandQuilter.com. Come by and visit!
Peace, Love and Flowers! The Hippie Flower Quilt will make you smile as you see how much fun it is to make. Each of the flowers and their swirls are created by cutting the top layer or two of the quilt to reveal the underlying fabric. It's like when you were a little kid and took lots of different colored crayons and covered a page with color. Then you took the black crayon and covered over the colors. The really fun part was scratching out the black to make a picture from the hidden colors underneath.
Now that we are grownups, we have a fancy name for this process, reverse applique, but the fun is the same Hippie Flower Quilt uses 4 layers of fabric. You pin the layers together, mark the flower pattern, sew and then carefully cut the layers to make the flowers. This is a quilt as you go project so as you sew the flowers you create a beautiful outline of the flower on the back of the quilt.
The applique and the quilting are done at the same time. The binding is a shortcut method where the edges are sewn all around and then clipped to fringe.
Every step in this quilt was planned to create the most beautiful quilt possible in the most efficient way possible. There are numbered steps and photographs to guide you. The pattern pieces are full size designed to be printed from standard computer paper. There are 8 helpful photographs in this pattern.
