(7) Name: 'Quilting : Gyroscope

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • use a sewing machine
  • baste, quilt, and bind a quilt

Pattern Description:

Gyroscope is a fun lap sized quilt pattern that will look great with a variety of different fabrics! The round shape of the blocks ,and the way they are connected creates the gyroscope shape, and is achieved with creatively placed sashing. Strip piecing and a few other important tricks make it a snap!

This pattern includes full color illustrations for each step in the process, as well as cutting diagrams. The pattern is for a quilt measuring 48" x 62," or a total of twelve blocks with sashing, but could easily be expanded to make any size quilt!

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 48" x 62"


  • six assorted fat quarters
  • 2 1/4 yards solid white or other background fabric
  • 1/4 yard sashing fabric
  • 1/2 yard binding fabric

You Will Also Need:

  • rotary cutter
  • ruler
