Icho is the Japanese word for "Gingko".
I have admired the grace and beauty of oriental art for many years. So when I came across a book of Ancient Japanese Family Crests I began adapting some to applique.
A certain amount of artistic license has been taken with each of the "Crests" that I have adapted. Some elements have either been added or deleted in order to make the design more "applique friendly". Most are relative quick to make and individual blocks can be used as a small wall hanging, or several can be combined for a larger quilt.

Geraldine Richardson - Grannie "G" Applique
After Geri Richardson attended her first quilting course, she knew she had found the medium that would allow her to marry her technical skills as a land-planning drafter and natural artistic abilities to create inspirational works of art. Passionate about the craft, she eagerly absorbed the typical needlework techniques and common patterns used. Always one that colored outside the lines, Geri’s vision, however, was for something different. Having found her preferred medium, Geri worked to find techniques that would allow her to craft her innovative designs. Her passion for the art and natural determination caused her to rediscover a long-lost quilting technique that has allowed her to make her inspirations a reality. In 2002, Geri successfully launched a pattern design company, Grannie G Appliqué.
