Since retiring from my teaching career I've discovered that there is life outside of the classroom! I spend parts of most of my days indulging in my favorite hobbies of quilting and sewing. I started designing patterns as an experiment, and no one was more surprised than I was to find that other people liked my little designs. I try to write my patterns in such a way that beginning quilters can follow them. I include lots of details, photos, and little informative notes, so even if they look complicated, the instructions should be easy to follow.

Originally, I had thought that cute little toddler flip-flops on a mug rug would make a darling baby shower gift or gift for a new mom or grandmother. Then I made one. And I couldn't stop. I made a whole family of them. Mugs rugs for the family! Everyone, children and adults, alike, could pick their favorite fabrics from your bundle of scraps and you have mug rugs for coffee, mug rugs for afternoon snacks, mug rugs for the desk, on the coffee table, or outside on a summer evening. Feet in warm weather flip=flops are happy feet and these mug rugs make me smile.
You can whip one of these mug rugs up in no time. A quickly pieced side border, 4 small fused applique pieces, a bit of batting and binding, If you like, you can add rick-rack or other trim, and it's done.
Mug rugs are not only just the right size for a drink and small snack, but they will also add a bright splash of color to a coffee table or desktop.
The pattern contains three pages of instructions plus a template for the flip-flops.
