Basic Skills Necessary:

  • You should know how to work your sewing machine and basic rotarty cutting skills

Pattern Description:

This project is made using a fun quilt as you go technique! Blocks are quilted as they are appliqued, so when you are done, you are DONE!

The pattern offers 2 sizes, a lap size quilt or a small wall hanging. Perfect for a Valentine for your sweetheart! This technique can be used to make any size blocks or quilt that you would like!

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 12"x 16" Perfect size for a Valentine!
  • 48" x 64" Lap quilt size!

Materials:

  • Sewing machine with zig-zag stitch capability. A walking foot is helpful, but optional, just use your regular zig-zag foot if you don't own one.
  • Rotary cutter, square up ruler, 12x6 ruler and mat.

You Will Also Need:

  • For the Valentine sized quilt, you will need at least 2 backgrounds 2 backing fabrics and at least 2 heart fabrics. You should be able to get all of these out of fat quarters. If you are planning a scrap quilt use one square of 12 different fabrics each for background, backing and hearts.
  • For the Lap Quilt size you will need 1-1/4 yards each of 2 different backgrounds, 1-1/4 yards each of 2 different backing fabrics, and 1/2 yard each of 2 heart fabrics. You can certainly go scrappy if you like.
  • Batting- leftovers should work, stay away from fat batts and 100% poly.
  • Thread- colors to either match, contrast or highlight your blocks. Choose a scheme that suits your chosen fabrics.
