The Crown of Venice medallion is an INTERMEDIATE to ADVANCED paper piecing quilt pattern. You'll receive complete directions and foundation patterns to stitch both variations of the design shown. The pattern as given makes a 16-inch (40.6cm) quilt block. Consult the percentages table included to easily resize it to suit your project. Due to the complexity of the design, blocks smaller than about 12 inches (30.4cm) are NOT recommended.
The inspiration for this design comes from a motif carved into a wall of St. Mark's Cathedral in the extraordinary medieval city of Venice. The versatility of this block is demonstrated in the images above, whether made up in one, two, or more colors for the celtic knot "crown" and the background. Use the coloring pages included and have fun playing with color before finalizing your fabric selection!
This celtic wreath design would make a show-stopping medallion for a very special wedding quilt or a wall hanging, sofa throw, or table topper, or over-sized pillow.
