Pattern Description:

Put a modern spin on the classic Log Cabin block when you create your own one-of-a-kind modern improv blocks! Due to the uniqueness of this method, fabric requirements are just an estimate and it's likely that you will have leftovers.

Not to worry: simply make more blocks or create an original composition on the back, using leftovers plus a little backing fabric.

Pattern also includes machine quilting diagram and general tips on basting and binding.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Throw size 48" x 54" - can easily be made bigger.


  • 22 fat quarters (half solid, half print)
  • 1/2 yard fabric for binding
  • 3 yards backing, or 1 1/2 yards plus scraps

You Will Also Need:

  • 60" x 60" square of batting
  • 50 wt cotton thread for piecing and quilting
  • walking foot or even feed for domestic quilting
  • rotary cutting equipment, basic sewing supplies
  • 12 1/2" x 12 1/2" square ruler for squaring up your blocks
  • safety pins or 505 adhesive spray for basting
