Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Foundation paper piecing
  • Add sashing and/or borders to quilt block

Pattern Description:

Block Island North lighthouse is located at Sandy Point, north end of Block Island, RI

This is a foundation paper-pieced pattern. The full size pattern is included in this PDF file. It prints out on 11" x 17" paper. If you are printing on 8.5" x 11", you will need to adjust your printer's settings for pages 9 & 10 to "tile large pages". This setting can be found under "scaling type". Also define the "overlap" to be at least .25". Print the pages at full size. Each of these 2 pages will print out in sections onto 4 different pages. Then you will need to tape them together. The Unit A piece should measure 13.5" wide inside the sewing lines after you have it taped together.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Finished block size is 13" x 11.38"

Materials:

  • assorted fabrics to make the block
  • rotary cutter
  • Add-a-quarter & Add-an-eighth rulers
  • thin cardboard with a straight edge 8-12" long
  • scissors
  • sewing machine
  • iron and ironing board
  • iron-on medium weight stabilizer

You Will Also Need:

  • thread (grey or beige, red, light grey)
  • quilter's acrylic rulers (minimum of 12")
  • cutting mat
