Aunt Ruby's Garden - Throw Size

from Carmen's Cottage Creations
(7) Name: 'Quilting : Aunt Ruby's Garden - Throw Size
Aunt Ruby's Garden - Throw Size Aunt Ruby's Garden flat
Aunt Ruby's Garden - Throw Size Aunt Ruby's Garden

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Machine Sewing
  • Hand Sewing
  • Rotary Cutting
  • Machine or Hand Quilting

Pattern Description:

This quilt was made as a gift to my most special great-aunt. She and I have always shared a close bond, even though we never had a lot of time together. I'm sure memories of looking at her "magical" garden and watching hummingbirds flocking to her feeders as a little girl greatly influenced my love of hummingbirds, roses, and gardening! Aunt Ruby most certainly enjoyed her quilt, calling it "her garden" when she could no longer get out and enjoy her own.

The material needs for each print are small enough to make this a great de-stasher for your fabric leftovers! You will need 9 prints for the 9-patch and large blocks, and two other prints for the connecting strips and corners.

Material needs are based on 44" wide fabric.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 58" x 70"

  • 1/2 yard each of 9 separate cotton prints
  • 1 1/2 yards of another print or solid for connecting strips
  • 1/4 yard of a different print for small corner blocks
  • 2 yards solid or pattern for binding
  • 2 yards 60" or wider white muslin for backing
  • 60" x 72" white cotton or other batting

You Will Also Need:

  • Sewing thread
  • Quilting thread
  • Hand Sewing needle
  • Rotary cutter and mat (for ease of cutting)
