Pattern Description:

Angus is a little dog with a big heart. He loves to be outside, playing with his friends or chewing on a good bone. You will often find him on top of his house, keeping an eye on things.

The applique and the quilting are done at the same time. The appliques are sewn with raw edges. These are designed to fray to the sewn edges and give a cozy, folk feel to the quilt. There are no time consuming satin stitches or messy glue paper.

The binding is a shortcut method where the back of the quilt is brought to the front and hand stitched.

Every step in this quilt was planned to create the most beautiful quilt possible in the most efficient way possible. There are numbered steps and photographs to guide you. The pattern pieces are full size designed to be printed from standard computer paper.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • approximately 42 x 36 inches

Materials:

  • 1 yard (.91m) print cotton fabric for front of quilt
  • 1 piece of batting 44x 38 inches (119x97cm) or a crib size (I like Warm and Natural 100% cotton batting)
  • 1 piece 46x 40 inches (116x101cm) fabric for the back of the quilt. This fabric will be folded to the front at the edges to form the binding.
  • 1 piece 11x9 inches (28x23cm) black flannel or black cotton for Angus the dog
  • 1 piece 10x7 inches (25x18cm) red print for the house roof
  • 1 piece 5x6 inches (13x15cm) grey fabric for the house
  • Small scraps in yellow, brown, brown print, blue and white for the small appliques.

You Will Also Need:

  • Permanent marker in blue for Angus' eyeballs. (optional: you could use thread to form the eyeballs.
  • Darning foot or free motion foot accessory for your sewing machine (optional but very useful)
