You should already know how to cut fabric with a ruler and roller cutter. It makes really great precise edges.

Pattern Description:

I love to create fabric and sometimes the fabric makes me want to create a Quilt. This is what happened here. I had dyed and painted the 5 blocks with sunset colours and silhouette birds, dyed some other fabric with Burgundy or Maroonish colours and then I just had to make the quilt.

I'm not an experienced quilter with hundreds of quilts under my belt, so I make Easy Peasy quilts and better still I explain everything simply.

Because I'm not that experienced, I feel that even a beginner can make this quilt and do it relatively fast so that the project doesn't drag on and become a chore. I hate that. I like to get it done.

I had a beginner quilter friend try this tutorial out to test it to make sure it was Easy Peasy and she was delighted with it ..sigh of relief.. :-)

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

It will be somewhere between 36 and 40 inches, depending on whether you have stuck to my sizes or made your borders larger or even added more borders to make it bigger :-)

Materials:

1) 5 blocks cut out to 7.5 inches square
2) Fabrics to co-ordinate with those blocks.
A 25 inch length of fabric for the outside frame (not the binding)
A 12 inch length of the fabric for the middle frame.
An 18 inch length of the fabric for the inside frame and binding.
40 inches by 40 inches Batting
40 inches by 40 inches Backing Fabric
This is for 42 inch wide fabric, so less is needed if you're using 56 inch wide fabric.
Using 56inch wide fabric you need : A 20 inch length of Fabric for the outside frame (not the binding)
A 12 inch length of fabric for the middle frame.
A 12 inch length of fabric for the inside frame and binding.
The Batting and Backing fabrics would be the same.
The fabric for the Nine Patch Squares will be cut from the excess of the above fabrics.
