Simple piecing and fusible appliqu make this a quick-and-easy holiday project. First choose a colorful Christmas print for the outer border. Then pick the prints for the hearts, borders, and binding to coordinate with it. Strip-piecing makes quick work of the pieced units in the background, which can be a tone-on-tone print or other subtle background print that won't detract from the tree. Embellish the tree if you wish with buttons, beads, sequins, or other ornamentation.
Pattern includes full-size templates to trace for the appliques--small and large hearts, star, flowerpot.

I am a published sewing and quilting author with several books and many magazine articles to my credit. My most recent books are The Quilting Answer Book and The Sewing Answer Book, both published by Storey Publishing. I learned to sew from my grandmothers, great grandmother, and my Mom when I was just 7 or 8 years old. I've been sewing ever since. I added quilting to my repertoire in the 1980s and worked for a major quilt book publisher as the Editor-in-Chief for 5 years. Now I have my own business, designing quilts and tote bags and anything else that strikes my fancy. I loved taking a recent mixed media class online and had fun letting my "little girl" play with art materials. Of course, I'm using fabric in my "art." Go to www.joyofsewingandquilting.blogspot.com to see my projects and whatever else I'm up to.
