Do you want to play a game?

Use the pieces of A Friendly Game to create a few chess pieces or enough for a whole board!

Includes patterns for six chess pieces (Pawn, Rook, Knight, Bishop, Queen, King) as well as instructions to create a chessboard quilt.

UPDATED: Corrections made to fabric amounts and the Queen pattern.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 2.5" x 5" Chess Pieces / 5" with sashing (finished size)


  • approximately 3/4 yard for light chess pieces
  • approximately 3/4 yard for dark chess pieces
  • approximately 1 1/2 yards light background fabric
  • approximately 1 1/2 yards dark background fabric
  • **NOTE**These amounts only refer to chessboard layout

You Will Also Need:

  • sewing machine
  • rotary cutting supplies
  • thread
  • Add-A-Quarter ruler (optional)
