When I attend my quilting group, I like to have everything in a small box so that it is easily accessible and I can sit, sew and chat knowing my items are all secure. Designing this box meant my needs were met and I love using it as it all locks together and fits neatly in my bag to transport around with me.
This pattern contains a comprehensive tutorial with over 60 photos and step-by-step instructions to walk you through the construction of a quilters sewing box.
The box is made using 2.5mm card (grey board), cut and glued together, then covered with your favourite fabric and lined with fancy paper. The double lid folds out to reveal a cotton surface perfect for piecing on, or storing work for stitching. Fold the lid over to use the cutting mat. The box has designated areas for your quilting tools. A compartment for your spool of thread, a compartment with a lid for thimbles and small items, a pin cushion, a magnet to hold needles and a place for your scissors and cutting knife. This is all held secure with a domed clasp. The box is 5cm high, 16cm wide and 23cm long. Personalize the outside of the box with embroidery, applique or embellishing.
For many years I have designed and made boxes and it is a real pleasure to be able to offer this box as a pattern and tutorial.
It is also available as a kit, visit my blog to find the kit on Etsy.

I started crafting from a child as I lived in a home with a mother that sewed. As a child I loved creating and dreaming up things to make. I continued into the clothing trade as an occupation and then embraced quilting and other crafts as life has progressed. It is a real joy to spend time creating something tangible.
