The Orangeman

Pattern Description:

Looking into my family history, I found that my Grandfather George Lynd Munn was one of the founding members of Greencastle Orange Lodge Whitewell Road, Belfast. I was brought up in the Graymount area of the Shore Road, not far from this Orange Hall. In those days the weekly baby clinic was held in the Orange Hall. When my younger brother was born I remember waiting in and around this hall, whilst my Mum got him weighed, bought supplies of the dried baby milk, Cow & Gate and chatted and drank tea with all the other young mothers of the Graymount and Whitewell Road. This would have been around 1965-66 and I was 8 years old. On sunny days my friends and I were allowed to play in the garden of the Orange Hall. It always fascinated me that there was a carved stone in the brickwork and on this stone was carved my Grandfathers name George Lynd Munn. Some day I'm going to go back and see if it's still there and what date is on that stone.
