Skill Level:

small skill level requirement Beginner

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • knit, (purl), increase, decrease

Pattern Description:

A quick-to-make teddy bear, knitted all in one piece (except for the snout) so has minimal sewing.

Make as a toy, make a lot of little ones for a mobile, or make a tiny one as a fridge magnet.

This pattern has a garter stitch (all knit) version, and a stocking stitch/stockinette (knit and purl) version.
Use any yarn from 4 ply to 8 ply/DK - great for using sock yarn leftovers as it takes only 10 -15 gms of 4 ply/fingering, and 25 - 30 gms 8 ply/DK.

This will vary depending on yarn and needles used. A firm fabric is better, so if your knitting is loose and open use smaller needles. It needs to be tight enough to hide the toy filling .

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • This depends on size of needles and thickness of yarn, samples here are approx:
  • 11 cm tall on 2.75 mm (US 2) needles, using 8 gms of 4 ply /fingering
  • 14 cm tall on 3 mm (US 2.5) needles, using 10 gms of 4 ply sock yarn
  • 16 cm tall on 3.25 mm US 3) needles, with 15 gms of 6 ply sock yarn
  • 17.5 cm tall on 3.5 mm US 4) needles, with 30 gms of 8 ply/DK yarn

  • Use any yarn from 4 ply/fingering to 8 ply/DK - great for using sock yarn leftovers as it takes only 10 -15 gms of 4 ply/fingering, and 25 - 30 gms 8 ply/DK.

You Will Also Need:

  • 1 pr 2.75 mm (US 2) or 3 mm (US 2.5) or 3.25 mm (US 3) or 3.5 mm (US 4) needles (use smaller needles for thinner yarn)
  • small amount dacron filling, 2 m thin black yarn for embroidering face narrow ribbon for bow

I have a lot of fun designing patterns for sale - most are quirky things like dog tea cosies, dragon scarves and koala hats. I also make children's clothes, and things for adults too.
I hope you like them.

I published a book - "The Odd Ball Knit Book" on how to use up all your odd bits of stash to make fantastic ...
