small skill level requirement Beginner

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Knitting and a Little Embroidery

Pattern Description:

I decided to design a simpler version of my monarch caterpillar pattern. Whilst still aiming for a very realistic caterpillar, this one is much easier to knit. It is knitted on 2 needles, and I think because I have used garter stitch, looks even more like the real thing.

I love creating little critters, and since I have already made a monarch butterfly, it only seemed sensible to knit a chrysallis as well.

So this pattern contains the instructions for both the caterpillar and chrysallis. The instructions are very straight forward, and I include stitch counts at the end of rows. The making up instructions for the chrysallis also includes photographs.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • caterpillar 10 - 12 cm
  • chrysallis - 6 cm

  • 4ply wool - green, black and white
  • Knitting Needles 2.5mm or 3mm
  • chrysallis coloured wool
  • wadding
  • pipe cleaner
