I love knitting small insects, and always try to make them looks as realistic as possible, and not too cutesy. But I think my little ladybirds are cute in their own way. Did you know that a group of ladybirds are called a "loveliness"?
My pattern is knitted on two needles and flat. There are only two pieces, and just a little bit of embroidery to add the spots and line up the middle.
I have included a template for the legs, although these are optional, and I think she is equally nice with or without legs.
For some extra guidance on how to sew a french knot for the spots you can see a page on my blog http://ginxcraft.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/french-knot.html
I hope you enjoy making some ladybirds!
I have always liked making things, and although I have been knitting a lot recently, I also like sewing and other crafts.
I live on the outskirts of London, and work part-time at a local school, and have partly got back into making things because my children are always doing something creative. At school I love the days when we get really messy.
