(6) Name: 'Knitting : Cricket

Pattern Description:

At my school the classes are all named after mini-beasts, and for this year I have been working in Cricket Class. So I have been mulling over the idea that I would make the children a cricket, after all I made Caterpillar Class a toy last year.

The idea of a cricket was a little more daunting (all those legs), but this is not too hard a knit. It is all done on two needles, and although you need double points for a bit of icord knitting, the body is done in one piece, with some short rows to give its characteristic shape. An extra piece is sewn on to give the cover piece of the thorax, and then stitches picked up to make the wings.

I think he is very cute, but then this is from the woman who also likes stag beetles, dragonflies and sea creatures, so I may just be a bit weird.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Finished cricket is 15cm long

  • 2 double pointed needles Size 2.25mm
  • Double Knit Wool (20-25g)
  • wadding
  • craft wire (optional)
