  • You will need to know how to cast on stitches, knit stitches, purl stitches, knit two stitches together, yarn over, cast off, seam the finished work and knit in ends of the finished work.

Pattern Description:

Wrap your baby in soft, elegant tradition on his or her special day! This Baptism gown has a full long skirt and cap sleeves with seed stitch edging, and a filigree seed stitch body for a perfect fit. Buttons close the back neckline. It is the perfect gown for your tiny prince or princess, and absolutely destined to become a family heirloom. It is perfectly paired with the Traditional Baby Bonnet, also available on my site. The pattern was created by Madame Segneri, a knitwear designer in Lyon, France, for the Baptism of her twin daughter, Anglique, seen in the photos at age 10 and a half months.

Gauge:

A 10 cm (4 inch) square, knit in stockinette stitch is 17 stitches and 28 rows.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Birth to 3 months OR size 6 to 18 months

Materials:

  • Eight medium skeins or twelve small skeins solid aran weight, number 4 yarn, extra soft for baby's skin, natural fibers recommended (Anglique's was knit in 100% merino wool) Pair of size 5 mm (US 8) knitting needles Darning needle and sewing needle Scissors 3 buttons, size 1.5 cm (1/2 inch) and matching thread
