Two different Christmas Stockings patterns, one for a boy and one for a girl, inspired by traditional and vintage motifs including original motifs charts designed by me with toy cars, holly sprigs, hearts, snowflakes, Christmas Trees and reindeer. This is a great way to learn to knit socks on a bigger scale before trying out small gauge socks.
The tradition of Christmas stockings at Yuletide was adopted from old Norse religions that worshipped Odin. Children left boots, filled with carrots, straw, or sugar, near the chimney for Odin's flying horse, Sleipnir, to eat. Odin rewarded children for their kindness by replacing Sleipnir's food with gifts or candy.
22 sts x 30 rows over 10cm in stocking stitch (stockinette).
230 yards of DK weight
