A prayer shawl worked in lovely Cathedral Arches lace that brings to mind the soaring arches of a Gothic cathedral. Make it in a lightweight wool for warmth (I used DiV Zenith Natural wool), using the first (smaller) number of stitches, or a cotton or silk yarn for warm climate use, using a the 2nd (larger) number of stitches and a finer gauge. The shawl is worked in two parts that are joined at the center, so the arches always point up, and the lace border is the same on both ends.
~18 sts = 4" (gauge need not be exact)
