Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Lace knitting
  • Kitchener stitch joining

Pattern Description:

A prayer shawl worked in lovely Cathedral Arches lace that brings to mind the soaring arches of a Gothic cathedral. Make it in a lightweight wool for warmth (I used DiV Zenith Natural wool), using the first (smaller) number of stitches, or a cotton, linen or silk yarn for warm climate use, using a the 2nd (larger) number of stitches and a finer gauge. The shawl is worked in two parts that are joined at the center, so the arches always point up, and the lace border is the same on both ends.

Gauge:

~18 sts = 4" (gauge need not be exact)

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • ~18" x 70" (~21" x 70")

Materials:

  • Long circular No. 4 and 6 needles (used for knitting back and forth)
  • 2 1.1 lb balls DiV Zenith Natural or equivalent DK or light worsted yarn

You Will Also Need:

  • Several yards of smooth cotton yarn for casting on
  • Yarn needle for darning in ends
