Skill Level:

small skill level requirement Beginner

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • knit and purl
  • There is a double knitting tutorial included

Pattern Description:

I liked the idea of making a personalized bookmark with the bookmark owner(tm)s name on it. That would be a special kind of gift.
And it is readable from both sides!
The technique is double knitting.
For this bookmark you have to knit each row twice using the knit1, slip 1 method.

This pattern is a toolkit including the whole alphabet charts and a small design for the top and bottom.
You can leave it out for long names or add it several times for short names.
A small photo tutorial on the two-color cast-on and an introduction to the basics of the double technique are also included.

It(tm)s quick and easy to knit and only requires some leftovers of 4-ply yarn (e.g. sock yarn).
I needed less than 15 g of each color.

Enjoy and happy knitting!

Knitting gauge: 1 x 1 inch = 8 stitches and 9 rows in double knitting.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Size of the bookmark Sandra in the picture: 24 cm x 5 cm, knitted with 2.00 mm 40 cm circular needle

  • about 15 g of 4-ply sock yarn or similar yarn (cotton, acrylic) of each color depending on the name's/text length you like to put on the bookmark. I suggest using striking color combinations like grass green and black or yellow/orange and black.
  • 2 double pointed needles size 2.0 mm " 2.25 mm or a circular needle 2.0 mm " 2.25 mm. If you use bigger needles the bookmark will turn out even longer and wider.

You Will Also Need:

  • tapestry needle to weave in the ends

Suggested yarn:

230 yards of Fingering weight

2 contrasting colors
