I have been knitting since I was about 8 years old. My mother taught me to knit and my parents encouraged me to explore all kinds of arts & crafts activities by providing me with the materials that I needed to create.
As a girl, I loved to sew (I spent hours using my mother’s sewing machine making clothes for my dolls), knit, draw and paint. In high school I spent all my extra time at school hanging out in the art room. In college I worked at a cute little yarn store and I still have some yarn in my stash that I bought at that store…way too many years ago!
I love giving hand knit gifts to my friends and family. In these days of mass produced gifts (that often require a plug-in cord or battery) it is nice to give something that is truly one-of-a-kind. I love to see the smile on their faces when they open the gift I made for them.
I enjoy knitting (of course!), teaching my daughter to sew, going to my son’s sporting events, baking, making jam in the summer, making homemade gingerbread houses in December, and going to the beach.
I hope that you enjoy using my patterns to create special heirloom quality items for your home, friends & family.
This barn is so fun to knit! The red part of the barn is knit as one piece and seamed at the corners. Felt doors and windows are sewn on with embroidery floss. (I love layering materials!) The roof is knit separately and sewn on the top. There are detailed photo instructions in the pattern to walk you through all the steps!
For a special, memorable gift knit up this cute red barn and give it to a new baby or young child...along with a farm themed book.
The Big Red Barn knitting pattern is a tribute to the many fun farm themed children's books....especially "Big Red Barn" by Margaret Wise Brown. (The knitted barn is almost exactly the same height as the Big Red Barn board book.)
SKILL LEVEL: Easy/Intermediate. This pattern is tutorial style and includes LOTS of photos with step-by-step instructions.
YARN: I used Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride Worsted 'Red Hot Passion' for barn and Berroco Vintage 'Cracked Pepper' for roof.
