Skill Level:

small skill level requirement Beginner

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • How to knit, purl & read directions

Pattern Description:

After knitting coasters, I decided to make placemats to match the coasters-- same pattern, just more stitches to make a much bigger circle. One skein of a 120 yds will make one placemat with very little yarn left over. Check yardage when selecting yarn, a must!

Oh, yes, I did not mention in the pattern that "6 pie shaped segments" will make a complete circle as opposed to "8" segments when knitting coasters. The place-mat is knitted all in one peice before joining the CO edge with the bound off edge.

Gauge is not important----about 4 1/2 stitches per inch on size 7 needle. "Tight" knitters might try a size 8 needle, however, the fabric should be firm when knitting this project.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Pllacemat measures approx. 14" across

  • 1 skein (70 grams) makes 1 placemat

You Will Also Need:

  • stitch marker and/or safety pin

Suggested yarn:

120 yards of Worsted weight

Preferred Brand/Yarn:

Peaches & Cream-100% cotton yarn

Solids, but self striping would also be interesting
