This predominantly solid-fabric blanket is great for those who want a bit of impressive lace, yet are concerned about holes in which baby could get their fingers caught.

Start with just a bit of lacy pattern knitted circularly to dress up the outer edges of this utilitarian beauty. Then the center is knitted back and forth in garter stitch on the diagonal, forming a square to fill in the center of the baby blanket while attaching itself to the edging at the same time.
